Soccer Bocce

Objective of the game
Soccer Bocce is a hybrid sport that blends the precision and strategy of bocce with the kicking skills of soccer. The goal is to kick your soccer balls closer to the pallino (target ball) than your opponent’s balls.
Players & Equipment
- Players:
- Can be played 1v1 or in teams of 2, 3, or 4 players.
- Each team gets four soccer balls of the same color.
- Equipment:
- 1 Pallino (Target Ball): A small, lightweight soccer ball (size 1 or 2).
- 8 Bocce Balls: Regular size 5 soccer balls, with four of one color and four of another.
- Playing Area: A designated field or open space. A marked court is optional.
Game Setup
- Choosing Teams:
- Teams are formed, and each team gets four soccer balls of the same color.
- Determine Starting Team:
- A coin toss or random selection determines which team starts.
- Mark the Court (Optional):
- If using a dedicated space, mark a throwing (kicking) zone and ensure the playing area is at least 30 feet long.
Gameplay
- Throw (Kick) the Pallino
- The starting team kicks the pallino to any point within the playing area, ensuring it travels at least halfway down the field.
- If the pallino lands out of bounds, the opposing team gets to kick it.
- Kick the First Bocce Ball
- The starting team then kicks their first soccer ball, trying to get it as close as possible to the pallino.
- Alternate Turns
- The opposing team then kicks one of their soccer balls, attempting to get it closer than the first team’s ball.
- The team whose ball is farthest from the pallino always kicks next.
- Play continues until all eight balls have been kicked.
Scoring
- Determine the Closest Balls
- After all balls have been kicked, determine which team's ball is closest to the pallino.
- Only the team with the closest ball scores points for that round.
- Points Awarded
- The scoring team gets 1 point for each ball that is closer to the pallino than the nearest opponent's ball.
- Maximum of 4 points per round.
- Winning the Round
- The game continues until one team reaches the predetermined score (commonly 12, 16, or 21 points).
Additional Rules & Variations
- Foul Line
- Players must kick from behind the designated kicking line.
- Kicks taken in front of the line do not count.
- Moving the Pallino
- If a ball hits the pallino and moves it, play continues with the pallino in its new position.
- Dead Balls
- If a ball goes out of bounds, it is removed from play for that round.
- If the pallino is knocked out of bounds, the round is restarted.
- Strategic Play
- Players can aim to block opponents’ balls or knock them away from the pallino.
