Objective of the game

Soccer Croquet is a hybrid sport that combines the precision and strategy of croquet with the foot skills of soccer. The goal is to kick a soccer ball through a series of wickets (gates) in the correct order and direction, reaching the finish post before opponents. Players may also use strategic shots to knock opponents' balls off course.

Players & Equipment

  • Players:
    • Up to 8 players.
    • Each player or has their own colored soccer ball.
  • Equipment:
    • 1 Soccer Ball per Player: Standard size 3, 4, or 5 soccer balls.
    • 9 Wickets (Gates): Small cone arches, portable soccer goals, or similar obstacles.
    • 1 Start Post & 1 Finish Post: Cones, flags, or another marker.
    • Playing Field: A flat, open area such as a grass field, park, or backyard.

Game Setup

  1. Choosing Teams:
    • Players can compete individually or in teams, with each player using their own ball.
  2. Determine Starting Order:
    • Color coding on the start post determines the first player.
  3. Setting Up the Wickets:
    • Arrange 9 wickets in a zig-zag or looped course leading to the finish post.
    • Players must follow the course in a set order (numbered wickets).
  4. Marking the Start & Finish Posts:
    • The start post marks where all players begin.
    • The finish post is where players must hit their ball after passing through all wickets.

Gameplay

  1. Kicking the Ball
  • Players take turns kicking their ball toward the next wicket.
  • Each player gets one kick per turn, except when earning bonus shots (see below).
  1. Passing Through Wickets
  • Players must kick their ball through each wicket in the correct order and direction.
  • If a ball misses a wicket, the player must try again on their next turn.
  1. Bonus Shots
  • Clearing a Wicket: If a player successfully kicks their ball through a wicket, they earn one extra kick.
  • Hitting an Opponent’s Ball:
    • If a player’s ball hits an opponent’s ball, they earn one extra kick.
    • They may choose to either take their extra kick immediately or reposition their ball before kicking.
  • Reaching the Finish Post: A player must hit the finish post exactly to complete the game.

winning the game

  • The first player to pass through all wickets in order and hit the finish post wins.
  • If two or more players finish in the same round, the game enters sudden death where players take one final turn to score.

additional rules & variations

  1. Out-of-Bounds Rule
  • If a ball goes out of bounds, it is returned to its last position, and the player loses their turn.
